A house gets its legs
I am currently sort of accepting the fact that it appears as though I am meant to be an ambassador of garbage. Not the stinky, half rotten kind...ewww. but the still interesting cast offs that have haunted me throughout my life. As a kid it was my household chore to take care of the garbage...I couldnt bear to throw away the laundry soap boxes, so they accumulated under the bed until my Mother threw them away...."BUT they'll be worth moneeeeee some day i wailed"
I grew up in a time before garbage pick up in the then rural area we lived in so there was a weekly dump run...What a chore my stepfather thought, and he volcolized his displeasure at the very primative and much beneath his current station in life and all...What I remember is ,
dressers, shoes, rusty metal and most of all a house. The man who ran the dump had built himself a house. As I look back i can see that amazing house. An Artists house. A handmade house. HAnd made and entirely cast off materials.
On the flip side of my life, my father lived in NYC all of my life . There is a steady stream of recycling in big cities that has alays left me a bit awestruck...'You found THAT on the street"??? I was there also, during the garbage crisis in 1975 and the one in 1981. check these pictures out..http://www.buzzfeed.com/whatamess/the-worst-garbage-strikes-jdf
It has been a hobby of mine to visit landfills everywhere i live and vistit for any length of time...I have been to dumps in NY, Georgia, North and South carolina, California, Texas, Florida...well you get the idea.
SOOOOO....now that i have the shop with its equally lovely basement i am able to be a shelter for these things that were headed to a landfill. Garbage mountains...ugh
All of that aside...these 'legs' showed up from Anee..a kindered spirit I guess...She gathered these bent wood pieces up and saved them from the Garbage Mountain. It took like eighteen tries to get them right on this hous ...but aaaaaaaah
The Gingerbread trim was rescued on big garbage day this year, as were the antique nails that i set it with...like little studly soldiers all in a row. Very butch for gingerbread dont you think?
it is sturdy...well it lists a little.
Loving the antique wall papers.
okokok back to workie!
